CHOC-TEMBER - SEPTEMBER VEGAN BOX PRODUCTS

The September Vegan Box came jam-packed with goodies - sweet treats, savoury goodies, magazine subscriptions, beauty items and cleaning products - so many treats it would be a long post to review them all in one hit so welcome to the first of the review posts for the awesome items this little treasure chest contained!

Since I have such an obsession with order and putting things in 'boxes' I've grouped the items - Here's the choc-tastic items!

THE VEGAN TEAHOUSE
Chocolate & Walnut Brownie
$5.95
Get Your Own Here

'Purveyors of fine vegan eats & tea blends - vegan, gluten free, refined sugar free & caffeine free. Saving the world one brownie at a time!'

Owing to his dislike of walnuts I was hopeful that Danny would bow out of trialing the brownie but unfortunately he wasn't going to let a little thing like a nut stand in his way of wrapping his chompers around this tempting looking treat!

In order to make the deliciousness go as far as possible we crumbled the brownie and put it on top of one of our favourite desserts - Mango Tofu Mousse! I gratefully accepted the pieces of walnut that Danny picked out of his but he wasn't so willing to part with any of the chocolate-y goodness.

I have to admit to it being rare that I meet a baked good I don't like but even so, these brownies were pretty divine! Moist and fudgy with a rich chocolate flavour, I could have easily eaten the whole package by myself! They would be perfect as a decadent special occasion dessert served alongside a plant-based icecream but their price makes them a bit too rich for regular rotation in my life.

While The Vegan Teahouse website is currently under construction their Facebook page lists the locations you can get your hands on your own brownies. If brownies aren't your cup of tea they also have... well, tea! And granola, banana bread and fudge! I love that they proudly state that they grind all of the flours they use themselves, use organic ingredients wherever possible and that their brownies, fudge and banana bread are wrapped in biodegradable cellophane.

COCO BIOTICS PROBIOTIC ENERGY BAR
Coconut Choc Chunk
$4.25 (45g Bar)

Danny & I went splitsies with the Vegan Box treat too. I ate mine in a mad rush after I let myself get too hungry one afternoon at work. It worked superbly at warding off the impending attack of the hangries and, even though I only had half a bar, it seemed to have a decent amount of staying power.

To be completely honest, when I saw the ingredient label list things like mung beans, red lentils, chick peas, and alfalfa seed I was concerned about how this bar would taste. Never fear! The bar was delicious and reminded me of a childhood favourite - Chocolate Balls! The coconut flavour was strong but not overpowering and the only thing that I could mention as a negative (although that's probably too strong a term) was the firmness of the bar - I prefer a slightly squishier texture.

With the added benefit of fermented probiotics teamed with the fact that they seem to keep my hunger at bay quite well I would be more than happy to pay the dollars for these bars. I think having a few stashed in my desk and in my pantry would keep me well prepared for a snack to grab on the go! The bars are also suitable for those avoiding gluten, corn and soy.
